Although court proceedings are public, Shaffie Law values the privacy and dignity of each of its clients. Accordingly, in the following real case summaries we omit any identifying information including the client's name, initials or their gender identification. 

[2025] Toronto, Ontario

The client, a young person, was charged with assault, possession of a dangerous weapon and uttering threats following an altercation at school. The client was alleged to have brought a knife to class, showed it off, and stated that they wished to use it to harm a classmate. The client was also alleged to have hit the same classmate. All charges were withdrawn.

[2025] Toronto, Ontario

The client, an entrepreneur, was charged with criminal conspiracy to produce GHB and unlawful importation of a controlled substance. The client was alleged to have imported over one metric ton of an illegal precursor for purposes of making and selling the "date rape" drug through local distribution channels. Following several successful legal challenges concerning the unlawful search of the client's cellular device and the unreasonable delay in bringing them to trial, all charges were stayed at the request of the Crown.

[2025] Vancouver, British Columbia

The client, an asset management professional, was charged with sexual assault following the breakdown of a long-distance dating relationship. The client was arrested at their home in Toronto and ordered detained for 6 days while awaiting transport by authorities to British Columbia. After Shaffie Law filed an emergency habeas corpus application, the client was released on bail. Three months later, their charge was withdrawn in Vancouver unconditionally without setting a trial.

[2025] Toronto, Ontario

The client, a blue-collar worker, was charged with multiple counts of domestic assault, assault choking, uttering threats and forcible confinement following the breakdown of a common-law relationship. The charges arose as a a result of a dispute while the complainant was attempting to move out. The incident was caught on audio tape, and graphic photographs of injuries from previous alleged assaults were provide to police. All charges were withdrawn before trial. 

[2025] North Bay, Ontario

The client, a community organizer and social worker, was charged with assault following an argument with their partner about childcare. The client was alleged to have slapped and tackled the complainant. The client was subsequently charged with a failure to comply after inadvertently contacting the complainant through social media. All charges were withdrawn.

[2025] Bracebrideg, Ontario

The client, a professional, was charged with domestic assault and uttering threats. Their marriage with the complainant had broken down following accusations of infidelity. The client's ex-spouse later alleged that during an argument their hands were pinned against the wall, and that on another occasion the client had threatened to burn the ex-spouse's house to the ground. All charges were withdrawn.

[2025] Kitchener, Ontario

The client, a graduate student awaiting professional certification, was charged with indecent act after witnesses observed that their genitals were exposed inside a retail establishment. The incident was partially captured on video surveillance. The charge was withdrawn without scheduling a trial. 

[2025] Kingston, Ontario

The client, a retiree, was charged with assault and mischief under $5,000 following an argument with their spouse. They were alleged to have slapped their spouse in the face and damaged their glasses. All charges were withdrawn unconditionally.

[2025] Toronto, Ontario

The client, a social media influencer, was accused of domestic assault and assault with a weapon following a fight with their dating partner. The client was alleged to have thrown their cell phone at the complainant. All charges were withdrawn unconditionally.

[2025] Toronto, Ontario

The client, an information technology professional, was charged with domestic assault following an altercation with their dating partner. This was the second time the client had been charged with domestic violence in relation to the same complainant within an 18-month period. The charge was withdrawn without scheduling a trial.

[2025] Newmarket, Ontario

​The client, a real estate professional, was charged with assault after an argument about finances. It was alleged that the client punched their pregnant spouse during an argument. The charge was withdrawn unconditionally.

[2025] Brampton, Ontario 

The client, a retiree, was charged with mischief under $5,000 and failure to comply with a recognizance (s.810 peace bond) after breaking their spouse's phone during an argument. This was the second time the client had been charged in relation to the same complainant within the year. The charges were withdrawn without scheduling a trial.

[2025] Toronto, Ontario 

The client, a professional, was charged with assault following an argument in which they allegedly pushed their spouse while intoxicated. The charge was withdrawn.

[2024] Newmarket, Ontario

The client, a finance professional, was charged with two counts of sexual assault and one count of criminal harassment. On learning that the client had been unfaithful to her in the course of a multi-year relationship, the victim phoned police to report an instance of rape as well as stalking behaviour following the parties' break-up. The victim further described multiple acts of sexual assault throughout the relationship and furnished police with a text message admission from the client. The trial proceeded before a jury. After two days of cross-examination of the victim, the Crown withdrew all charges. 

[2025] Bracebridge, Ontario

The client, a professional, was charged with assault and uttering threats. The client's marriage had broken down following claims of infidelity. The client's ex-spouse later alleged that during an argument their hands were pinned against the wall by the client, and that on another occasion the client had threatened to burn the ex-spouse's house and other property. All charges were withdrawn.

[2025] Toronto, Ontario

The client, a finance professional, was charged with three counts of domestic assault after their estranged spouse accused the client of slapping during multiple arguments. The charges arose in the context of a bitter divorce and custody battle. One of the assaults was captured on video surveillance. All charges were withdrawn unconditionally without scheduling a trial.

[2024] Oshawa, Ontario

The client, an IT professional, was charged with domestic assault in relation to his pregnant spouse. The victim alleged that she had been punched in the stomach and face multiple times, resulting in a documented multi-day visit to the hospital to ensure the health of the baby. After six days of trial, the client was acquitted.

The client, a medical professional, was charged with criminal harassment and obstruction of justice after allegedly attempting to persuade a witness not to testify against their sibling at a domestic violence trial. All charges were withdrawn unconditionally. 

[2023] Newmarket, Ontario

The client, a student, was charged with sexual assault following an incident at an after-party. The victim alleged that following her high school prom she attended an outdoor event for students where she consumed a significant quantity of alcohol. During the party she ran into the client, whom she had been following on social media. She followed the client to a remote area of the property where, she alleged, she was forcibly raped without a condom. Several witnesses confirmed that the victim was visibly shaken and crying on returning to join her friends. After six days of trial, the client was acquitted of the charge. 

[2025] Brampton, Ontario

The client, an engineer, was charged with assault after they pushed their sibling down a flight of stairs during an argument. The siblings had a history of argumentation. The charge was withdrawn unconditionally without scheduling a trial.

[2025] Toronto, Ontario

The client, a retail professional, was charged with domestic assault and forcible confinement after pushing their spouse during an argument and preventing them from leaving a bedroom. The charge was withdrawn.

[2025] Toronto, Ontario

The client was charged with domestic assault after trying to grab a phone from their spouse's hand when their spouse called 911. The charge was withdrawn unconditionally.

The client later saw the the ex-partner on the street and attempted to engage in conversation, leading to a charge of failure to comply. All charges were withdrawn without scheduling a trial.

[2024] Bradford, Ontario

​The client, a professional, was charged with domestic assault and domestic assault with a weapon after kicking and throwing a television remote at their partner of six years during an argument. The partner also brought up past problematic behaviour to police. All charges were withdrawn unconditionally.

[2024] Brampton, Ontario

The client, a truck driver, was charged with assault following an argument with their spouse of seven years over a charging cable. After the client's spouse asked them to leave the house, the client was alleged to have grabbed their spouse and thrown them to the ground, then pressed down their arms to prevent the spouse standing up again. The charge was withdrawn without scheduling a trial.

[2024] Toronto, Ontario

The client was charged with carrying a weapon, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon, and uttering threats following an argument with a roommate. The roommate was unhappy with the client's drinking and confronted them about it. The roommate alleged that the client took a foldable knife from their pocket, brandished it, and threatened the roommate with it, then followed them outside after the roommate tried to get away. All charges were withdrawn unconditionally.
